Casualties in Second Day of Protests in Kurdistan


Protests continued for the second day in a row on Tuesday in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

Rallies calling for the resignation of the government, fighting corruption and improving the economic situation erupted in four cities in the region, leaving five people dead and dozens wounded, said health sources.

The demonstrations took place in Halabja, Kifri, Koy Sanjaq and Ranya.

A health spokesman in Ranya said that the protests in the city left five people dead, while 80 were injured.

Sarraj Promises Merkel to Help Ease Migrant Suffering


The head of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, vowed during a visit to Berlin on Thursday to take action to ease the suffering of tens of thousands of migrants stranded in his country, even though his cabinet has partial control over Libya, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said.

Speaking after talks with Merkel, Sarraj said the numbers of migrants are “staggering — we are talking about 500,000 migrants outside holding centers and 20,000 in the 42 centers run by the Interior Ministry.”

Rafsanjani’s Family Talks About ‘Lost Testament’


The family of late Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani agreed that there is a lost political testament left by the president who died last January 8 in Iran.

Rafsanjani’s daughter, Faezeh Hashemi, said that uncovering the reasons behind her father’s death could reveal the whereabouts of the lost testament.

The former president’s other daughter, Fatima, said that his family would not “accept the report of the National Security Council” concerning his death.

Israel Suspends Two-Seas Canal Project


The Israeli government has decided to suspend a joint project with Jordan and the Palestinian Authority – the Red Sea–Dead Sea Water Conveyance – in an attempt to exert pressure on Amman to reopen the Israeli embassy, according to sources quoted by the Israeli media.

Saudi Arabia Freezes Accounts of Suspects Arrested in Anti-corruption Probe


Saudi authorities announced on Sunday a decision to freeze the bank accounts of figures previously arrested for their involvement in corruption cases.

The Saudi Information Ministry said through the Saudi Center of International Communication that the sums linked to the corruption cases and which are currently present in the bank accounts of the arrested suspects, would be returned to the Kingdom’s treasury.

Shock in Lebanon Accompanies Hariri’s Resignation from Government


The resignation of Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri from the government on Saturday created a shock on all levels that was expressed by various Lebanese political forces, who were cautious in expressing a frank reaction to the resignation until the circumstances that prompted it become clear.
