Head of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj announced the formation of a “joint military force” in anticipation of the possible re-eruption of clashes between militias in the capital Tripoli.

The force will be commanded by Osama al-Juwaili and composed of three light infantry units, as well as forces from the ministry of interior.

It is tasked with disengaging clashes between militias and ensuring that the ceasefire is upheld.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz will host a summit between Ethiopia and Eritrea in Jeddah Sunday to sign a peace agreement ending the war that has lasted for over 20 years.

Through its diplomatic efforts, Saudi Arabia has contributed to striking this historic agreement, which strengthens relations between the two former enemies in the Horn of Africa.

King Salman invited UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to attend the signing ceremony, which is also due to be attended by African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, according to UN sources.

Iran is continuously receiving messages from US officials through various methods asking it to begin negotiations, President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday.

“From one side they try to pressure the people of Iran, on another side they send us messages every day through various methods that we should come and negotiate together,” Rouhani said in a speech broadcast on Iranian state television.

Tensions between Iran and the United States soared after President Donald Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal with Iran in May and then reimposed sanctions last month.

وذكرت وكالة الصحافة الفرنسية أن جنودا وقطعا مدفعية ودبابات مرت في العرض أمام الزعيم الكوري الشمالي كيم جونغ أون في وسط بيونغ يانغ.
ولم يشمل العرض سوى صواريخ قصيرة المدى.

Lebanon’s Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday denied a report by the US Fox News channel that one of the Iranian airlines, Fars Qeshm Airlines, had smuggled weapons to Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut.

The DGCA explained that Fars Qeshm Airlines had already submitted two requests to conduct two cargo flights between the airports of Tehran – Damascus – Beirut – Doha, confirming that the plane landed in Beirut twice empty: on July 9 and August 2.
